World History/Period 6
Mr.Avery
A theme is central idea in literary work. What Chinua Achebe wants to teach the world is that the book "Things Falls Apart" is that sometimes if you want something you have to earn it by your smarts and skills.Like Okonkwo, he beat the best wrestler in all nine villages in order to be the best.
Another is that it is the law that you can't judge a person by his or her's religious beliegfs.Just like the missionaries, they tried to change the Igbo people's religion into their's.I don't blame the Igbo people to be disgusted by what the missionaries tried to change me.
Also, the differnce is that in the resl world it makes you less than a man to beat your own wife.To my opinion if you hit a women, then that you are afraid to hit a man.Okonkwo thought that he was the best so he did what he wanted to do without thinking twice.
Chinua Achebe might of wrote this book to show how hard life is out there. How hard it is to gain respect and how easy is to lose of your life's achievement's.Okonkwo gain respect by beating the best wrestler in nine villages and lost all of his achievements by killing Ikemefuna,a person who treated Okonkwo as his father.
You have to be better than the person who you are staring down or is related to you.Okonkwo was bbetter than his father. He gain some titles he is a better fighter,he didn't have to owe any one money,he had more wives, but he was still a failure. He wasn't a good husband or father figure to his children so he died in shame.
You can't get through life by yourself.Sometimes the person you hate may be the person to get you out of trouble.Okonkwo thought he was a one man army and only respected himself.Beat his wives and children and one of his son's Nwoye betrayed his father and made Okonkwo get exiled out of the villlage.
Life is hard for different type of people. You have to work where you want to go.If not the person next to you may take your job and your hope's and dreams.Okonkwo thought the only way to be the best is by violence with blood and death. When you kill a man you have his blod on your hands,no matter how much you wash them you'll remember that you killed the man with those hands.
