It was Ojiugo fault because she left her children with one of Okonkwo’s wives, and was getting her hair done. But she was running late and she couldn’t make Okonkwo’s first dinner, so she was beat. But Okonkwo was wrong for beating Ojiugo, because it was the week of peace. During the week of peace, members of Okonkwo’s village have to be nice and share things with each other. But Okonkwo broke the peace by beating his wife. Like it says in the book “ the evil you have done can ruin the whole clan, we shall all perish”. Because Okonkwo broke the peace everyone is scary about the next harvest.

Members of community like Okonkwo’s village have to obligation, because the whole community lives to believe and believe to lives. So to threat is pretty much trouble. But if you lived in a community like mine there are so many rules(cultural). So I think you go by what you believe and live. But in Okonkwo’s village its hard to be you. Because where we live at it’s a melting pot, because all types of people here who believe what ever. I’m just saying its hard.

Okonkwo’s reaction the way he did, because that’s the way he is. Like it is in the book “ Okonkwo ruled with a heavy hand”. But that’s what I think.

Ojiugo was a fault because she out to plait her hair at her friend's house and did not return early enough to cook the afternoon meal.He did not know why she wasn't at the hut.He thought she went out cheating on him so he beat her.

No I don't know who does that and I will never want to know because that's cruel and unmanely.I don't understand why would he beat his wife when she came late, and it was Week of Peace, how can he forget the most sacred time of year when to show everyone respect.

In his village whoever did that had to be dead by his fellow villagers, but know since it was Week of Peace no one shall get hurt or the earth goddess will cause chaos to the village. So that's why he didn't kill him because the Week of Peace.

Ojiugo was at fault becauce she knew how Okonkwo was. Like they said in the book "he ruled with a heavy hand." She should have told Okonkwo she was going to be late.Or at least she should have had his food ready for him.It was her responcibility to get there on tme to make his food.

Okonkwo's reaction was in his nature because he treated everyone the same, even his son.Everyone knows what to expect from him.He looks down on people who don't do the right thing. Okonkwo have a very short temper. The smallest thing can tick him off.So it really was his fault but because it was the Week Of Peace he should have let it go.

A member of a commuity have an obligation to respect all laws.Every cummunity have its own set of laws and everyone mut obey them. It doesn't matter about your religious beliefs. Everyone have a right to freedom of speech but it only goes but so far. No matter how powerful you are or famous you must respect the laws.

In the book "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. Okonkwo cursed the Week of Peace since he had beat Ojiugo and was punished which was the custom by Ezeani. The priest of the earth goddess which he told Okonkwo "you have commited a great evil".Also he said "The earth goddess whom you have insulted may refuse to give us her increase, and we shall all perish". Since the earth goddess that they beleive makes their harvest of yams grow.

In the text Okonkwo was provoked by justifiable anger by his youngest wife, who went to plait her hair at her friends house and did not return early enough to cook the afternoon meal. Okonkwo did not know at first that she was not at home. After waiting in vain for her dish he went to hjer hutto see what she was doing. There was nobody in the hut and the fireplace was cold. He had asked his second "Where is Ojiugo?" which she replied by saying "She has gone to plait her hair". Next he asked "Where are the Children?" His first wife answered "They are here" he looked into the hut and saw Ojiugo feeding her children and the children of his first wife. When Ojiugo returned he beat her haeavily and forgot it was the Week of Peace. Which was the great evil Okonkwo commited, and Okonkwo's action was typical of his nature since he is always filled with anger and you know he will take it out on anybody.

I do not think they have an obligation in the community to respect all laws, cutural regaurdless of their beleives. Since In the text alot of people I had cursed the Week of Peace before. Also Okonkwo didnt really respect the law since he beat his wife. Which he had insulted the earths goddess and she may refuse to give the whole villagen an increase. So my thoughts are they dont really have an obligation to respect laws and culture.

Ojugo was at fault bacause she arrived home late to prepare dinner for Okonkwo. Meanwhile she went to plait her hair. So Okonkwo reaction was beating her.
he beat her so bad plus it was during the "Week of Peace" so he cursed the "Week of Peace" and he was punished by getting his kola nut tookin away.

yes beacuse if you wanna be a follower of a certain community you should follow there rules.same thing with me goin to newark Tech , if i wanna be here i have to follow there rules no matter how much i dont like it i still have to be obedient. some people dont care they just be there own person like Okonkwo, very aggressive.

It was Ojiugo fault because she left her children with one of Okonkwo’s wives, and was getting her hair done. She was running late and she couldn’t make Okonkwo’s first dinner, so she was beat. It was wrong on Okonkwo's part to beat her. It was the week of peace so by beating her broke that peace. The week of peace is the week that that everyone is suposed to be the that you show niceness, generousity, curtiousy, and love to one another.

Members of an community have an obligation to that community to respect all laws. I think this because it doesn't matter what you r in that community you still should respcet those laws. Everyone has there own beliefs and everyone doesn;t believe in the same thing. In my community for example some people beleve in Aali and some believe in Jesus.

Inconclusion, Okonkwo reacted like that because that is the way he is. Like the book says.“Okonkwo ruled with a heavy hand”.

Okonkwo's wife was at falt because she knew that she had to have dinner ready for when okonkwo comes home. She should ow the everyday routine by now. She should also know how her husband is when he doesnt get things the way he wants them so i dont understand why she couldnt just avoid all of that b just cooking him dinner the way she was supposed to. Then she just left her children with no food but she was lucky than okonkwo's second wife lied for her and said that she had asked her to feed her kids before she had left.

Okonkwo was ten very upset that he didnt get his dinner when he had came home. so for his wife's consequences when she had gotten home he beat her. The crazy thing about it is that okonkwo never stoped beating her because he was very upset with his wife that she didnt cook his dinner. she was screaing so loud that even people next door heard her. Thats how bad he was beating her. I thin he shouldve never did that.

For his consequences he had to to everyones work in the feild for that week. He was supposed to be dragged to his death but he couldnt because it was the week of peace. I think that okonkwo is oly this way because he is successful. I think if he wast successful he woudnt be so crank and demanding all the time. And he wouldnt be so judgmental.

There was a meeting in the village. All men had to be there. Okonkwo rudely said “The meeting is for men.” Later on he went with his sons to plant. Okonkwo saw his sons did not do a good job so he warned them: “I will not have a son who cannot hold up his head in the gathering of the clan.” I can tell Okonkwo is a tough dad.

In the village there was a kindred meeting. The meeting discussed the next ancestral feast. And a when Okonkwo spoke, there was a man who contradicted him. Without looking at the man, Okonkwo said “The meeting is for men.” The man who contradicted him had no title. That was the reason why Okonkwo basically called him a woman. Without seeing a person, Okonkwo knew how to kill a man’s spirit.

Okonkwo spent his next few days getting ready to plant his yam seeds. Sometimes he cut them if they were too big. He took his son Nwoye and Ikemefuna along with him. When he saw his sons were slacking off, he warned them by saying “I will not have a son who cannot hold up his head in the gathering of the clan…” Although he knew his sons were still too young to understand the preparing of the yam seeds. He was still tough on them

I believe that Ojiugo (Okonkwo second wife)was at fault because she left her children with Okonkwo first wife while she went to go do her hair. She also was late to cook Okonkwo dinner.Okonkwo reaction was typical nature because normally the wife is on time and there to cook dinner for they husband. Also you dont leave your kids with your other husband wife.

Even though she was wrong he didn't have to hit her, especially in the "Week of Peace." I think it was a calm way to handle it.He's still a wrestler and always fight. Maybe he dont know another way to handle it besides fighting.

It is kind of 50-50 because even though he is a member of the community it is his belief and people have to respect that.On the other hand just like he has a belief , the whole community has a belief in the "Week of peace," So he should respect there belief.

I believe Ojiugo was indeed at fault because every one knew the power that Okonkwo had .He ruled with a heavy hand like they stated in the novel . She had went to plait her hair . But she was very late that she couldn’t cook Okonkwo a meal . She could of told other villagers to come tell him that she was going to be late . Its basically her fault that she got hit it was her responsibility to get his meal done on time .

Also Okonkwo’s actions were in his normal nature . He treated every one with the exact respect meaning wives and sons . Hes the type of person who looks down on other if they aren’t doing the right thing . But he was easlie angered by not having food at that time . Even though it was the week of peace he felt as he should of lay down the law on his youngest wife .
    .
I believe they should respect all there laws .If okonkwo cursed the week of peace he to shall be punish like many others before him . He beat his own wife when she was to be relaxing he could of took his anger out another way .That angered the earth goddess I think that’s not a good thing .Many people thought they really have an obligation to respect the law in which they do .

In here the story ojiugo, okonkwo first wife was at fault by not preparing her husband dinner on time.where okonkwo came home finding her somwhere else with her children getting her haor done.so with his anger he had beated his wife with anger.this was wrong actions by him and shoud'nt had beated his wife during the "week of peace".Whcih in there village is where the whole village goes one week of doing kindness and no sins for preparing the week before there plating of there crops.
Now what was so wrong by what okonkwo did was that by beating his wife the whole village thinks that that year they would fail in there platings and bad consequences will come upon them.there where the clan leader ezeani had said that his actions can ruin the whole clan.this actions done by him was pretty expected because he had a history of being violent and just show his anger in public. He is suppose to be a big bad wrestler to which being a very mean and affected man in his life by the way he ws raise by his father.also no matter what peson considered to the village they should always obey and respect all the rules given to them.to which okonkwo did'nt and just because of what he done he should be punished because he knew he shound'nt done this and still done it.
So okonkwo reaction's were unneccesary but because of the person he is he done it though.so i think he should be punished knowing how he had to obeyed the laws of the week of peace.to which he disobeyed although what his wife done in there village was wrong espiacially knowing that okonkwo is a very angry and mad man.so i think all rules need to be obeyed no matter what person it is.

Okonkwo beat his wife because she knew the daily rutines but didnt follow. Okonkwo thought she was out cheating so he taught her a lesson and beat her really bad. Knowing that he had a bad temper she should have just made him a meal. Now everybody really knows how bad his temper is.

Okonkwo is just not the person anybody wants to mess with. Okonkwo was supposed to get killed because of what he did but since it was week of peace that didnt bother him. Okonko is type crazy but he doesnt like weak people because he just looks down on them.

Okonko was hard on everybody because thats just how he was when he grew up. I guess thats how he will stay until someone stronger than him puts him in his place.

  13. Ojiugo was at fault, because she went out to go plait her hair. She never told anybody where she was going. So when Okonkwo got back to the hut and she was not there a bunch of things was probally going through his head. For all he knew, she could of been cheating on him he didnt know.so thats why he end up beating her.

But what Okonkwo did was normal to him.He had a temper.A bad one at that. And the book say's his other two wives were crying telling him to stop. But everyone knew Okonkwo would stop beating someone in the middle of it.Not even for the goddes.

I think everyone should have a obligation to respect all rules.Only because if they didnt, they would be dragged on the grond until they died. And thats a preety harsh way to die.I wouldnt want to die like that.So I think evryone would have had the mindset to follow and respect all rules that were set to be followed.

I would say that it was Ojiugo fault because she arrived late home. She left her children with Okonkwo’s other wife. While she wanted to get her hair done and go to her friends house. She also was late to dinner. I think that it was a typical thing because you wouldn’t want anyone else watching your kids.

Members of the community have an obligation to. It is to follow all rules and be respectful. I think this because it doesn’t matter what you are .You can be president of the world I don’t care you still half to follow the rules. People have certain beliefs. That’s just like if I was a Muslim and I don’t read the bible or the keron what will happen.

In conclusion I think that Okonkwo and other men react like that because that’s the way he is and they are. Because he is a heavy handed ruler. So that’s why I think people and Okonkwo act like that

During the of peace week in the town of Umofia, you are supposed to be kind to all of the people in the town. The reason for being kind is so that the crops will grow during the crop season. If you are not kind there is a belief that the yams in Umofia will not grow. Without the yams in Umofia there would be no food for the families to eat. If someone is caught not being kind that person will be punished.

During the peace week in the town of Umofia, Okonkwo’s wife was supposed to be making him dinner. Ojiugo Okonkwo’s wife was at fault because she did not make Okonkwo’s dinner because she was getting her hair done. Okonkwo was very upset because in the book that Okonkwo asked “where are his wife’s children”, then his other wife answered saying “ they are here. Okonkwo got really upset. Okonkwo’s nature was he did not like dealing with people with people who were less successful and lazy. His wife showed an act of being unsuccessful and being lazy.

As a member of the Umofia clan Okonkwo had an obligation to respect cultural laws regardless of his own individual belief and anger. His angry actions caused the tribe people to feel disappointed. The tribe people were disappointed because on the week of peace people in the clan are not suppose to disrespect others or their yams would go bad in the whole clan. In the book it states that “ the evil Okonkwo has done can ruin the whole clan“. It also says that “the people of the clan shall all perish because of Okonkwo’s action“. Just because Okonkwo was known around the village I do not think his actions was right.
is meal was not prepared. He went to his wife’s hut and she was not there It said

Ojingo was at fault because she did something that would cause Okonkwo to beat her. She was running late and she was supposed to make dinner. But instead, she was getting her hair done. Okonkwo was very upset because Ojingo didnt tell him that she was getting her hair done because if she did then Okonkwo wouldnt have really freaked out like he did. He had got upset at the part where it says "Where are her children? Did she take them? he asked wit unusual collness and restraint. "They are here" answered his first wife, Nwoye's mother. Okonkwo bent down down and look into her hut. Ojiugo's children were eating with the children from the first wife. "Did she ask you to feed them before she went? "Yes" lied Nwoye's mom, trying to mimimize Ojiugo's thoughtlessness. Okonkwo knew she wasn't speaking the truth. He walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo's return. What that little part showed was that he wanted his second wife to get home and when Okonkwo asked Nwoye's mom where the kids are at she said they are here and when he asked her "did she ask you to feed them before she went" and she lied [Nwoye], I knew that it was over and he was going to break the Week Of Peace.

I think that it all depends what community you live in to have an obligation to that community to respect all laws, cultural and said, regardless of their individual beliefs. For example, if you live in a place like Newark then that don't matter because alot of people don't rescept all laws, cultures and they care mostly about their individual beliefs. So if you live there then you don't have an obligation. Because say if you respect all the rules but the rest of the community don't, then you jus wasting your time even trying to respect all the laws when the rest of the community don't even care.

But, If you live in a place like where Okonkwo lives then I think you do have an obligation to respect all laws, and cultural and said, regardless of their individual beliefs. I say that because they take their laws seriously while we dont and when someone breaks a law over where Okonkwo lives then you in big trouble. Like when he beat his wife when it was the Week of Peace but he didnt care. I think he was supposed to die or something. But since he did what he did, his crops aint going to grow because during the Week Of Peace , thats the time when you are kind so that you can have food on the table for you and your children[letting the crops grow]. So thats why it depends where you live to see if you have an obligation to respect all laws, cultural, and said, regardless of your individual beliefs.

I think both Okonkwo and Ojiugo were at fault.Ojiugo should have owned up to her responsibilities and came home early enough to prepare the food she was supposed to prepare.but, that doesnt give okonkwo the right to over react and beat her on the the week of peace.Just because the way he acted is typical of his nature it doesnt justify his actions. but, if thats how things work in his enviornment than Ojiugo was at fault. okonkwo is a ruthless, strong, and overbearing man so of course he was going to act the way he did.Thats why Ojiugo should have been more careful because she probably knows how he can be.

I think a member of community have obligations to there community to respect all laws and culture regardless of their individual beliefs. If people didnt respect all laws and culture of their community there would pobbly be chaos. If you are a part of something like a community you have to be a team player.A
mistake like okonkwos mistake can not only cause you harm but, your communitys as well. That's why newark is considered bad.Certain members of the community are making it seem that way which hurts the reputation of others that live in the same community.

In the book when okonkwo comitted the crime he went to Ezeani the priest of the earth goddess. Ezeani said that "your wife was at fault ,but even if you come into your obi and found her lover on top of her you would stiil have created a great evil to beat her". so basically it means he should have thought of the consequences before doing the crime.

  19. In chapter four, Okonkwo had broken the peace. The reason he broke the peace was because he had gave a beaten to his youngest wife. He blames her for his reaction. The reason she got a beaten was because she came in the hut to late form getting her hair plaited. This mad her so late that she could not prepare the afternoon dinner. This mistake was very careless. She already knew that she had to cook she should have made time to go home and cook it.
Okonkwo’s reaction was to him natural to himself. In Africa there are a lot of abuse and beating token place. This is where black people now and days beat there children. This is the only punishment the are known of. It was a reaction that was not surprising to the people in his clan and his community. He was an undefeated wrestler.so this mad him a very strong man physically and mentally. After the beating she was in a lot of pain.
The people in the community have a little bit of some kind of obligation. Everyone has to have peace for that whole week. What makes him think just because his wife got him upset…gives him the right to brake the peace.

The reason why Ojiugo was at fault is because she was at an friends house getting her hair plait. Also cause she wasn't home on time to cook dinner. Okonkwo's reaction was typical because he kept on beating his wife over and over. It was "Peace Week" and he wasn't suppose to beat his wife and he did so the priest thinks that the gods will punish them.

Yes I do think so because in the quote above says that you have to obey the "Peace Week" law. That right there shows you that you have to obey that rule. If you didn't have to then it wouldn't be an problem for Okonkwo to beat his wife.

In this village they have rules when it comes to food. If they want something to eat they can't make the gods mad at them. Thats what Okonkwo did to make the priest mad at him.

  21. It was ojiugo fault because okonkwo would have never beaten his wife if she would have just came home and cooked his dinner. But okonkwo still should have never beaten her because it was the week of peace and the week of peace is the law. what happens in the week of peace is nobody must not get touched or killed and he broke that law.

But if i was okonkwo i would have been mad as him if my wife isnt home and didnt tell me where she went. If ojiugo would have just told okonkwo that she was getting her hair done. then okonkwo would have never broken the law in the first place. for example, when my mother doesnt tell my father where she went my father gets pissed because they are suppose to tell each other everything. so then my father finds out at the last minute and gets mad but doesnt hit her though.

There are laws in the village and okonkwo broke it. That really isnt fair because that's making an example for the other people and that's going to make it seem that everyone else can break the law too. which people need to follow the villages rules or else they get killed and punished by the earth godess.

How ojiungo was at first during the week of peace. Is when ojungo okonkwos wife was out to plait her hair. Okonkwo was at home waiting for his dinner, and found that his wife was not their. So how ojiungo was at fault is when she came home okonkwo spanked her. During the week of peace that wasn’t tolerated to unkind to someone. Okonkwos reaction to what he did was typical, because he took it like a man.

“In some clans it was an abomination for a man to die during the week of peace.” That statement meant that it is bad for someone to die during the week of peace. For they should learn their lesson and get another chance. I think that a member of a community should follow all laws. The reason I think they should follow all laws because it wouldn’t be fair to everyone else. I think that if he shouldn’t follow the laws everyone else shouldn’t either.

“The drums beat the unmistakable wrestling dance quick, light, and gay, and it comes floating on the wind.” The meaning of that statement is that they played so good and eloquently that it seemed liked it kind of connected with the wind. So I think that in a community it is important for everyone to follow all laws. Other wise there would be chateaus and problems all over the community. So I just think that is just very important for everyone.

Ojiugo was at fault because she should already know how Okonkwo is. After all he shows no type of emotion unless the emotion is anger; that right there should have popped in her head. Its okay to go out with friends at a curtain time but it was irresponsible of her to just go off like that because she should have known how Okonkwo would be. He doesn’t take anything from nobody so that was her fault and now she has to deal with the consequences.

Yes a member of community have an obligation to that community to respect all laws, cultural and said, regardless of what they believe because it’s their community, the community in which they decided to stay by themselves. Say for the “week of Peace” thing with Okonkwo. He believes if Ojiugo was being inconsiderate so he had the right to put his hands on her. His community respects the “Week of Peace” and they call that incident great evil. Imagine how much trouble you get into if you just did your own thing because you don’t believe in what your community believes.

I’m not saying what Ojiugo did is right or what Okonkwo did is right. They both did something they have to be held accountable for what they did because as both of them know the laws and regulation as well as right from wrong.

ojiungo okonkwos wife was at fault when he went out to plait her hair. When Okonkwo got home he expected his dinner to be finish. He found out that his wife wasn't there. Ojiuno knew that Okonkwo's ways were strict. When Ujiuno got home Okonkwo whipped her for her punishment.

He did this during the week of peace. To be unkind to someone was a violation of the week of peace rules. The rules of the week of peace should be followed so that it is actually a peaceful week. I think all the rules of the village shooul be follwed. They should be followed by everyone even Okonkwo.

If the rules aren't followed there would be chaous in umofia. there would be lots of violence. Such as killing an beatings. umofia would be a very bad place.
