Okonkwo thought that he was going to turn weak and useless, but he felt uneased about the situation when he killed Ikemefuna. In one of the sentences as he raised up his machete he looked away. That meant he didn't want to do it.
Later on in the story it said that he did not taste any food for two day after the death of Ikemefuna. He drank palm wine from morning till night, and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor.
If that's not that much proof he did not sleep at night. He tried not to think about Ikemefuna, but the more he tried the more he thought about him.Still he did not want top show no weakness about what he did as the best warrior in all nine villages.
He acted the way he did even though he didn't need to was that he liked Ikemefuna as a son.He told stories to him and his son Nwoye.Ikemefuna called him father which really touched his heart for him to say that.
Also Ikemefuna lived in Okonkwo's household and the elders of Umuofia seemed to have forgotten about him.He grew rapidly like a yam tendril in the rainy season, and was full of the sap of life.he was like an elder brother to Nwoye and from very first seemed to have kindled a new fire in the younger boy.
As I said in one of my paragraghs, he was lik a son to Okonkwo and a older brother to Nwoye.Ikemefuna called Oknkwo father. That touched Okonkwo's heart to hear that even though he wasn't Ikemefuna's father.
In conclusion I think that what Okonkwo did was bad,but I think he has a little good inside of him after all, even if he wanted to be a man who show no weakness or mercy, the warrior who deafeated the best of nine villages.
Okonkwo felt that he would be look at as a punk.He thought people would think he was weak. And he was not as tough as people thought he was.But deep down,he really didnt want to kill Ikemefuna. In the story it said " as he raised up his machete he looked away".So that just proves he did not want to do it.
ReplyDeleteAfter Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna he felt bad.In the book it said "he could not taste anything for two days".So i guess he felt so guilty of what he did.He thought he should not be pleased. And should be punished.
In the story it showed that Okonkwo had a consious. When he tried to go to sleep, all he could think about what he had didn.It was killing him on the inside. The more he tried not to think about it.The more he did.
Ikemefuna was like a son to Okonkwo.Everything he did to his real son he did to him.Okonkwo treated them both the same way.Ikemefuna thought as Okonkwo as a dad as well.So by killing him,Okonkwo looked at it as he was killing his son.
But for some reason.Umuofia forqot about Ikemefuna. They were all surrounding Okonkwo real household. But he became very popular in the rainy season. Then After a while,he became like a brother to Noywe. He was the sap of life.
In my own opinion,Ikemefuna was a good person.I dont think he deserved to die.Okonkwo could have done anything else but that.I mean Okonkwo was so tough and respected. He could have said "NO,I will not kill him"But he did.
In the conclusion of this story,I feel that Okonkwo could have done something else.Instead of killing him.To kill someine is the most wrongest thing someone can do.Even though he didnt want to feel weak,he still could have done something else.

ReplyDeleteOkonkwo thought that he was going to become a useless person.
He felt unease about the situation when he killed Ikemefuna.
In one of the sentences as he raised up his machete he looked away.
After he killed him he felt bad. The reason is because in the book
It says he could not taste anything for two days. So I guess he felt
Guilty of what he did. He thought that he should not be pleased but punished.
In the story it showed that Okonkwo had a conscious. When he tried
To go to sleep all he could think about was what he did. It killed him inside
But he didn’t want anyone to know. The more he tried not to think about
It that’s when he starts feeling bad inside.
He acted the way he did I think because even though he didn’t do half. I say
That because he is like Okonkwo’s son. He was telling stories to him and his son
Nwoye. Ikemefuna called him father and him calling him son. It really makes him think.
Also Ikemefuna lived in Okonkwo’s household. The elders of Umuofia seemed
To have forgotten about him. He was respected and had wives and as a big stock of yams.
He then later forgot about Ikemefuna. They all were surrounding his house hold.
In conclusion and my own opinion Ikemefuna was a good person. Okonkwo what
He did was bad. But he has a good side of him because he is known throughout the 9 villages. So that’s my answer. If you kill someone I think its wrong I don’t care if it was self defense.

In the story "Things Fall Apart"by Chinua Achebe Umuofia had decided to kill Ikemefuna.Which the weakness Okonkwo demonstrated was fear, love, and peer presure. In one of the sentences stated by Ikemefuna "My father, they have killed me!" as he ran towards him. Okonkwo was dazed with fear. Since he was afraid of being thought weak.
Further along in the story Okonkwo felt guilty for killing Ikemefuna. Since then in the story he did not sleep at night. He tried not to think about Ikemefuna but the more he tried the more he thought about him. Also he did not taste any food for two days. He only drank palm-wine and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat.
Also in the story Once Okonkwo got up from bed and walked about his compound. But he was so weak that his legs could hardly carry him. He felt like a drunken giant walking with the limbs of a mosquito
Moreover Okonkwo acted the way he did because Ikemefuna has lived in his household for over three years. So that was another son to Okomkwo since he was there for along time. For example he always told stories to Ikemefuna and his son Nwoye. They also use to plant yams on the farm together.
So Losing Ikemefuna are one of Okonkwos down falls in the book. Since he had to kill someone that meant alot to him. Ikemefuna was part of the family since he was able to connect with everybody.
In conclusion, I think Okonkwo should have at least tried to save Ikemefuna. If the whole situation was switched around and Okonkwo was in Ikemefuna's position wouyldnt he want somebody to save him.Except for choping him up. So I really think it was not fair for him to murder Ikemefun.

The Killing Of Ikemefuna
This man had came to okonkwo's hut and told okonkwo that they were going to kill ikemefuna.
Ikemefuna was okonkwo's adopted son. He had been in okonkwo's family for a long time now. Now they are
starting to get use to him. It was very sad that they had to kill him but they had to. Nyowe was very sad because
he was just starting to get used to ikemefuna they would do everything together and he was very upset that he had to leave.
They told ikemefuna that he would be going home to his real family. They did not want to tell him that they
were going to kill him. The only person that they actually told that they were going to kill him was okonkwo. They told
okonkwo that he shouldnt be apart of killing ikemefuna because ikemefuna had called him father. So okonkwo didnt even want
to see them kill ikemefuna. Then the day came that they had to kill ikemefuna.
Ikemefuna was walking with them on their way out of the village. They had to take him out of the village to
kill him so that no one would be a witness. As they were walking ikemefuna noticed tons of whispering. Then he
knew that something was going on. Infact he then knew that they were going to kill him. He also noticed that the men
were walking slower than before so that ikemefuna would walk ahead of them. He knew that this wasnt good but
he still kept walking. He did as he was told.
Then boom! Ikemefuna was shot. He then screamed "Oh Father They Killed Me". Okonkwo then
started running. I thought that he was going tp save his son. But i was shocked because instead of him saving
his son he grabbed the knife from one of the men and started stabbing his son to his final death. The only reason why
he did that was because he didnt want to be considered as a weak man. He didnt do it because he hated him or
he disliked him. He did it for a selfish reason.
In okonkwo's worl he hates being considered anything less that a man. The men that took part in
killing ikemefuna told him that if he saved his son or told anyone about it that he would not be a real man in
this village. Okonkwo was not going to have that. So there for he was a part of the killing of his own son.
Okonkwo didnt tell anyone that ikemefuna was going to get killed. He told them that he was going back
home to his mother and sisters. So no one felt that bad exept okonkwo. I bet he even felt a little guilty.
The weakness that okonkwo demonstrates when he takews the lead role in killing
ikemefuna is not being able to be trusted. Another weakness is to not do what he was told. He
was told to not be a part of the killing incident but he was. Only because he wanted to be considered
a real, powerful, and stong man and nothing less. He cared about what everyone else thought of him
and he didnt think about ikemefuna's feelings or that he would never get to see nyowe again or his family.
At the end of the day nyowe knew that ikemefuna had been killed. He had kind of figured
it out on his own. He thought about the whispering that the men and his father did. Then he thought about
how his father said that he was going back home. Then he really knew that ikemefuna was going to be
murdered. He still kept his thoughts to himself hoping that ikemefuna would rest in peace.

As tha man who had cleared he throat drew up and raises his machete ,Okonkwo ok awayHe heard the blow. The pot fell and broke in the sand he heard Ikemefuna cry, 'my father they have killed me!" as he ran toward him. dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his machete annd cut him down. He was afraid of being weak. This meant he ddnt wanna be look at as a fake. He idont tgood reputation turnbad because he didnt wanna take the of killing Ikemefuna.
Okonkwo did not taste food for two days, which mean he didnt eat nothing for two days, after the death of Ikemefuna. He didnt sleep at night.he tried not to think about
ikemefuna, but the more he tried he thought about him. He was so weak that be could hardly walk. He more he thought bout Ikemefuna the more weak he got. oOkonkwo didnt wanna feel weak because we was afraid of the feeling afterward. The fear he had in him did no good for him.
Ikemefuma was like a son to okonkwo so for him to him was like him killing his own son
Later on in the story it said that he did not taste any food for two day after the death of Ikemefuna. He drank palm wine from morning till night, and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor.

The weakness that okonkwo demonstrates when he takes a lead role in killing ikemefuna is that he is a women. The reason that he showed that he was a women was, because how can a man kill five men in battle. Add a boy to their number. When okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. Okonkwo was apprehensive that people would think that he is weak.
Also okonkwo even though he was afraid of killing him he had to. Just to show people from the villages that he got heart. Another reason why okonkwo just went ahead with killing him was, because he thought of his father. When he thinks of his father he sees failure and weakness. So he expelled that negativity by becoming strong and successful. That’s why he hardly backs away from his duty.
Okonkwo he also started to feel like his old self again. So he just started to occupy his mind with things that make him feel better. He said things like if I killed him during the planting season or harvesting. It would not have been bad in his village. Okonkwo he also was not a man of talking but of action that some other reasons why he killed ikemefuna.
Some other things that okonkwo did to occupy himself or take his mind off of the fact that he killed ikemefuna. Is he would go tap his palm trees for the afternoon. So okonkwo for the sake of his fame and wealth had to do what he had to do. Even though he did not want to kill him he had to show that he was strong and can handle anything. That’s another reason why he just did his responsibility.
Also when okonkwo killed ikemefuna he could not taste food for two days. All okonkwo did was drink palm wine from morning till night. Also his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor. At night he could not sleep because of what happened. Every time he tried not to think about it. But the more he tried not to think about him the more he did. Some mornings he would come out of bed weak that his legs could hardly lift him up.
Why okonkwo act as though he did not have to kill him is because he was scared. So every time he turned around to try to stall time. Someone in back of him would growl at him. Or they might make okonkwo rush, and just get it over with. Also okonkwo would sang a song “eze elina, elina sala eze ilikwa ya ikwaba akwa oligholi ebe danda nechi eze ebe uzuzu nete egwu sala in his mind”.
In conclusion why okonkwo acted like he didn’t have to kill ikemefuna. Is he tried to play it off by acting like he didn’t have to do anything. He probably tried to make them forget about ikemefuna and having to kill him. But in the end of it all he had to do something that he did not want to do. That is why he tried to get away with not killing ikemefuna.

Essay
Okonkwo started to love lkemefuna like a son. But when he takes lead in his killing he did that to not look weak. So he like it said in the book “okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down” which means in other words okonkwo killed him. Because lkemefuna was like son to okonkwo he felted like he killed his son.
So because okonkwo loved lkemefuna like his own son, he feel like crap or worthless. Okonkwo started to drink more and uses more snuff-bottle. He for that point and time he started to act like his father. Well for that time at least, okonkwo jut sat around the house and stared in to pace because there was work to do because it wasn’t harvest season so no work was to be done.
Also in the book it said that “ okonkwo did not taste food for two days after of lkemefuna. He drank palm wine from morning till night and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail.” What that means is lkemefuna’s killing hit okonkwo it hit him hard. But okonkwo being a big and strong man cant show it.
Also Okonkwo couldn’t sleep after he take lead in the killing of lkemefuna. Like it said in the book “he (okonkwo) was so weak that his legs could hardly carry him, he(okonkwo) felt like drunken giant walking with the limbs of a mosquito. What means that’s he felted so weak and lost after killing lkemefuna.
Okonkwo tries to play it off like he doesn’t care about lkemefuna, but really deep down he feels like he is dieing inside, like a part him dead with lkemefuna and so does nwoye. Nwoye started to fear his father because okonkwo started to drink some much. Nwoye started to get along with his father but then lkemefuna was killing by his father and there thing was over or you can say dead with lkemefuna.
Okonkwo dent like to show weakness, because is women and little children, to him man shall never cry and/or show weakness. But when okonkwo starts to show weakness he going against everything he believes in. Bt if you asks a real man can cry with is woman/women.
Well that all i got to say ,so bye

The weakness that Okonkow demonstrate when he takes a lead role in killing Ikemefuna is that he didn't want to be seem as an punk. It was kind of hard for him to kill him. Thats why in the story it said that he raised up his machete and look away as if he didn't want to do it.
After killing Ikemefuna he thought he should be punish. He wouldn't even eat for two whole days. He felt like it was all his fault and that he had all of that guilt on his back. He didn't really wnat to speak to no one.
He couldn't sleep because he kept thinking about killing Ikemefuna. He didn't want to but he didn't want the village to think that he was an punk, coward and also scared. It was an hard choice for him to do since he was like an son to him.
Okonkwo act the way he did because he treated Ikemefuna like an son. He,Ikemefuna and Nywoe use to always go farming and pick yams. He use to always tell them stories about that men has to take controll of their women(even if the boys knew it was wrong to do it).
He was part of the killing of Ikemefuna. He told everyone that the boy will go back home to his mother and sister. When he kill him everyone thought it was an mistake and that he didn't mean it. But,Okonkwo knew that he meant it and that he lied to everyone. Now he has to tell the boy's mother and sister that he kill him.
I also think that Okonkwo is an selfish man. I call him selfish because he rather kill his like son just to keep his title. Now he is walking around with guiltiness on his back.

Ikemefuna has been killed by the man he called his “father.” When it came time to kill Ikemefuna, Okonkwo shows that he is not so manly. He was afraid of being thought of as weak. He acted tough because of his reputation. At the end, he calls himself a woman. It is obvious he misses Ikemefuna. I think this is all wrong.
I can’t believe it! Ikemefuna has been killed by the man he considered his father. He even called him father. He was murdered by a man he loved. Maybe Ikemefuna would never think his “father” would kill him.
Then, the time came. Ikemefuna was running towards Okonkwo. So Okonkwo raised his machete and cut him (killing Ikemefuna). Okonkwo is supposedly a “macho man” you can say. He can’t be afraid of anything. But he did show he wasn’t so manly when he had to kill Ikemefuna.
In the book it says” He was afraid of being thought weak.” This goes to show he really was afraid of what others thought about him. He cared that other villagers would think of Okonkwo as “weak”. Just because he did kill Ikemefuna, doesn’t mean he is now strong. He is still weak inside. He just did it to keep his reputation strong.
In chapter 9, it says “When did you become a shivering old woman,” Okonkwo asked himself, “you, who are known in all the nine villages for your valor in war? How can a man who has killed five men in battle fall to pieces because he has added a boy their number? Okonkwo, you have become a woman indeed.” That’s when Okonkwo realizes he is feeling bad for what he did to Ikemefuna. The quote means that Okonkwo who is known in all the villages for his braveness can not sympathize what he did to Ikemefuna. He is convincing himself that he cant “fall into pieces” for killing Ikemefuna. Okonkwo calls himself a woman. Which I don’t understand why because apparently all that matters in these villages is who you kill and how you did it. It seems all fake to me.
After the death of Ikemefuna, the text says Okonkwo didn’t eat for two days. All he was surviving on was palm wine. He couldn’t sleep at night. All he did was think of Ikemefuna. He tried not to think of him, but the more he tried, the more Ikemefuna was in his head. To me, its obvious Okonkwo misses Ikemefuna. Although he killed him, I guess Ikemefuna still had a special place in his heart.
Well overall, Okonkwo demonstrates he is a weak person. Although he feels the need to hide it. He shows he is not as tough as he thought he was. The reason he acts tough is because of his reputation. So far his reputation is the one of a strong, brave, respected, feared man. He can’t mess his rep and have everyone think of him as “weak” just because he killed his son, Ikemefuna.
I think Okonkwo is being too superficial. He cares way too much about what others think of him. Why can’t he just show his emotions? He didn’t have to kill Ikemefuna, but he did, thinking of what others would think of him. He is putting an act. Okonkwo is not himself. He is what others want him to be. Maybe one day he can realize that to have a peaceful life, you have to be yourself!

When Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna he was very sad.He felt fear, guilty, and sad. I would have if I kill someone. Everyone and Okonkwo knew that he was strong and not weak. The thing that got to him was that Ikemefuna lived with him for three years and he was like a brother to Okonkwo. How would you feel?
In the book it said he did not taste any food for two days. Thats kind of like when a woman and a man is seperated. The woman gets depress and dont eat or talk for a period of time.So I would say Okonkwo is depress.
He also didnt sleep. Now some men do that when they seperate from there lady. All they think about is that over night. So for Okonkwo thats all he think about. Which is the death of Ikemefuna.
In the book it also said that he only drank palm wine from morning-night. Thats women when they seperate from the men. Thats kind of different though because they eat tons of ice cream.
Overall Okonkwo should be depress. He is at fault again. He shold have not kill Ikemefuna. So Okonkwo is wrong.

When Okonkwo took the lead role in killing Ikemefuna. He couldn't live with his-self, and his family was disopointed in him.
He couldn't sleep. His consious wouldn't let him sleep. He knew is was wrong. He just tried to show everyone that he didn't care y taking lead role. He than began to drink.
As I stated above he began to drink. His family feared him from his drinking. The one that feared him the most was Nwoye. He didn't want anything to do with him anymore. He thought he was a monster.
Well overall, Okonkwo demonstrates he is a weak person. Although he feels the need to hide it. He shows he is not as tough as he thought he was. The reason he acts tough is because of his reputation. Okonwo was afraid to be weak when he was going to kill Ikemefuna because when he raised up his machete to kill him and he looked away, it was because he didn’t want to do it. Okonwo actually liked the boy and developed some feeling for him while he was living in his home with all the hard work he did. Nwoye was also very close to Ikemefuna so Okonwo had a lot of things on his mind when he raised up that machete. Okonwo didn’t want his village to think he was weak and soft but he wants to keep his image that everyone thinks he’s tough and is fearless of anything.
After killing Okonwo he did not eat at all for the past two days after killing Ikemefuna, he drank palm wine from morning till night. His eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by a tail and dashed against the floor. Okonkwo wanted to prove to his village that he has no feelings or mercy by killing that boy and he wanted to show that he had no weakness which proves that he has power. He doesn’t want to become weak like his father Unoka who fears everything in life, Okonwo felt really bad after what he had done.
Okonkwo couldn’t even sleep at night, he tired not to think about Ikemefuna, but the more he tired the more he thought of him. When Okonkwo called his son Nwoye to his hut Nwoye run away when Okonwo dozed of, so that means his son is scared of him. The power that Okonwo showed to the village not only affected them but it also affected his son Nwoye with a lot of fear with in him. Okonwo felt like he killed one of his sons because Nwoye and Ikemefuna were real close during harvesting season and Okonwo developed feelings for both of them, so when Okonwo killed Ikemefuna he felt horrible.
Okonwo really doesn’t want people to discover his soft side so he goes ahead and kills a young man with full of life. I think that’s pretty messed up because he could have been the bigger man and said “no I don’t want to kill this boy” in my opinion that could have also showed power, in my eyes because he stood up for what’s right in his own beliefs against all odds. But Okonwo doesn’t seem to be powerful in my eyes because he lets his village choose his choices for him and he listens to them like a little boy, and goes ahead and does it.
Okonwo was sacred that his village would be angry at him for letting the boy live and would show to his village that he is not powerful. Maybe his village would have killed him for not killing the boy, and Okonkwo would maybe even hate himself for letting him live because he became soft like Unoka. So there is two points to this situation but I think that he took the unethical one in my opinion. It would have been different if he choose the right choice for that boy to live.
In conclusion it seems like he lets people control him in his decisions that he makes and that he’s not in pendent on his choices for himself. It doesn’t matter what people think about his choices, it matters what he think is right for him. Maybe Okonkwo some day will realize what his people are doing to him and will stop them from doing it any longer, instead he will change his ways and live in harmony. Okonkwo would finally take control over his life choices instead of people picking for him and doing as they tell him to do!

The killing of Ikemefuna to me was an major shocker. That was in which the weakness of Okonkwo because he was afraid of being weak. This fact was proven by the words stated in the text they were said by Ikemefuna “My father they have killed me as he ran towards him”.Okonkwo had fear in his eyes that truly was a big fear to him.
Okonkwo felt some type of way I believe guilty . The side effects he had of his sons killing is un canning he did not sleep at night he kept trying not to think of his late son but the more he tried the more he thought of ikemefuna even more .Okonwo was going through some type of emotional distress he couldn’t eat nor he couldn’t sleep .
Also in the text it states he didn’t even eat food for about two days in the text it states that okonkwo’s eyes were pitch red and some what fierce like the eyes of a rat .He only drunk palm-wine from sunrise until sundown .The man would still be hurt from this and the thought of weakness I believe still haunt him for ever .
I believe the name of the book “Things Fall Apart “ is actually coming into effect . The life of Okonkwo looks lyk its going down hill from the death of his son and him bing in fear of him being weak . This weird punishment towards him its an outrage in my perspective . Every thing is going wrong for poor okonkwo and by the title of the book being “Thing Fall Apart “ its most likely his own life .
Okonkwo I think doesn’t want to be alone he calls his other son Nwoye. Nwoye and ikemefuna were becoming very close nwoye would remember the good times . But he became in fear of his dad just like it was stated in the text when Okonkwo would like nodded out for a few nwoye would basically try to escape from him .
To me Okonkwo still showed his weakness by not being able to sleep or eat and he couldn’t stop think of Ikemefuna . Even tho he didn’t show it to other deep down it was seen . In his “obi” he suffered to me that’s where he unleashed his emotions in a calm n settle way . Proving to me he was a weakling but yet trying to remain tuff to others .
In conclusion, this whole situation could of be avoid if Okonkwo would have tried to stop dis from happing so he a fault right now Okonkwo was there he could of prevented this by running towards the man and chopping him up .Instead of seeing that happen to Ikemefuna .

IKEMEFUNA was killed by the man he had called his father okonkwo.okonkwo seemed very disapointed to to which when he killed ikemefuna it said as he was cutting him down he looked away which explained how weak he was.okonkwo was afraid of being called weak because he was always considered a very strong, mean vigourous ,an.who always had the reputation as the best wrestler around.
after the death of ikemefuna he felt terrible and had let his guilt overwhelm him to which it said he coudnt eat for two days and did'nt sleep at all.it says okonkwo had drunk very much palm wine and had been very drunk and hungover most off the days.ther also and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor.
there the death of ikemefuna had deeply affected okonkwo he had been deeply heart broken and felt very guity and terrible for what he done.i think deep inside his hard rocked heart he grew to love ikemefuna which was his own son considered to him .so what he done he felt he should of never done.
where here okonkwo shows he is kinda a weak person for what he done is very weak and could'nt withstand it.there it had shown he was a weak but also strong to which he had to do it to defend his self and who he.so he should weakness but strength also.
so deep inside okonkwo he misses ikemefuna and says that he regrets to wehat he done.to which now everyone considers him weak for killing his own son to which he has to maintain his reputation as a great wrestler but can't stands to what he done.to which killinq your own son is very vivious and it sounds very cruel.
i feel killing his son was very cruel and he should of never done such actions cause i don't think ikemefuna would of done the same to him.they both shared a deep bond and to which it was sacred to a father and son thing.i think okonkwo is so weak that he had to resort to killing his own son although i think he should of never done this.he is ruthless and he didnt prove anything to doing this and he shoudnt be awarded or recognized for doing this.okonkwo should be not respected and although he had to it should of never happened like this.
so,okonkwo considerably killed his own considered son he done something so wrong that shound never be forgiven or forgotten about.what he done he should very guilty about but which he should feeel terrible and never forget about what he done to someone who is considerably his own son.but doing this what not a own action this had to be done but shoudnt had been done in this matter.

I think okonkwo showed weakness when he took a lead role in killing ikemefuna.Okonkwo didnt really want to kill Ikemefuna. That's why he looked away when they brought down the machette but he didnt want to look weak so he finished him off. but, in the end i think he still ended up being weak.He wasnt strong enough to not give in to peer preasure i guess you could say.He also didnt really have to take part in killing Ikemefuna but he felt he had to because if he didnt he would look weake than the others.
i think okonkwo didnt really want to take part in killing Ikemefuna but felt he had to.
Ikemefuna considered okonkwo to be a father figure and okonkwo thought of him as a son. thats is one reason how i know okonkwo didnt want to kill Ikemefuna. also okonkwo killed Ikemefuna knowing that his son nwoye and Ikemefuna were very close and considered each other brothers. yet, oknokwo was too weak and gave in to peer presure and decided to just think about himself.
I think that if okonkwo would have just listend to Ogbuefi Ezeudu he wouldnt have to go through what he went through.Ezeudu told Okonkwo to not bear a hand in Ikemefunas death.I think Okonkwo took part in the killing it would look bad if he didnt step up like the others. But,that was no excuse to take part in Ikemefunas killing Okonkwo betrayed Ikemefuna and the bond they had. So I could kind of understand Oknokwo but not really.
like Okonkwo many of us at times give in to peer pressure and do things we might regret.
Even though he didnt want to seem weak in the end those who truly cae probably though he was weak for giving into the pressure. I think it was cruel to kill Ikemefuna espeacially after he called him father and cried out to him. Okonkwo didnt have to take part in the killing. He should have let the others do it at least then it wouldnt have been as painful.
I think Okonkwo is just really afaid of what people say about him .For example, Okonkwo asked himself when did he become a shivering old women. Then he said “you, who are known in all the nine villages for your valor in war?. Okonkwo, you have become a woman indeed.” That’s him trying to be something others expect him to be.
But at least okonkwo started to feel bad about killing Ikemefuna. In the book he said How can a man who has killed five men in battle fall to pieces because he has added a boy their number?. which means he starting to regret the killing of Ikemefuna. At least he isnt all that cruel and heartless he's just a little bit weak.
Maybe okonkwo should start showing more of that side and not care what people say.
In conclusion, I think Ikemefuna still holds a special place in okonkwos heart.Okonkwo is tryig to be something he is not. He's trying to be everything everyone else wants him to be. He's trying to protect the image he has created but deep inside he hurts.I think okonkwo should just start being himself.

Wkend Essay 3:
The weakness that Okonkwo demostrate when he takes the lead role of killing Ikemefuna is like useless. I say that because when he had Ikemefuna, he had a bad feeling like after he killed him. His family was very upset. He was upset at hiself to. Basically after the killing of Ikemefuna there were a lot of things that contributed to him being useless.
Well what happened was that Ikemefuna had felt like a child once more. Then one of the men behind him cleared his throat. Ikemefuna looked back, and the man growled at him to go on and not stand back. When the man said that , it sent cold fear down Ikemefuna back. His hand were trembled vaguely on the black pot he carried. So, as the man who had cleared his throat drew up and raised his machete, Okonkwo had looked away. He heard the blow. The pot fell and broke in the sand. He heard Ikemefuna cry "My father, they have killed me!" as he ran towards him. And dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought as like weak.
The ending part of how he died of where it says that he was afraid of being thought of as being weak. That sounds like he wanted to be liked and fit in. But, trying to "fit" in isn't all that. I say that because NOW he has to deal with his family disappointed at him. He also has to deal with himself and the guilt that he has inside him now all because of "fitting in".
So after the killing happened, he felt sick to his stomach. Not the type like feeling throw up sick but like guilt sick because he didnt mean to kill Ikemefuna. He just wanted to "fit" in and make sure that the other village people didnt think of Okonkwo as weak , a punk etc. So like he didnt taste ANY food for two days after the death of Ikemefuna. All he drank was palm-wine from morning till night, and his eyes were red and fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor. Also, he didnt sleep all night. He had tired not to think about him, but the more he tired not to the more he thought about him. All that trying to impress the other village people is getting to him quickly.
But why does he act like he does not have to do so? Well I feel as if he didnt have to kill Ikemefuna because it wasnt really any reason to kill him. He basically killed him to make the village people know he isnt a punk. And that he was in fear as well. It says in the book that "he was dazed in fear ......" We all have that fear when somebody step to you the wrong way and you just instantly want to attack. Well thats what Okonkwo did. Im not saying it was right but thats prob. why Inemkwo died.
In Conclusion, I feel as if what Okwonkwo did was wrong. He shouldn't never killed Iknewfuna. When he did that he thought he was doing right by killing him. But all he was doing was impression the otha village people and letting them know that Oknowkwo isnt weak. But all that came to bite him in the butt the next day cause he felt the guilt inside him when he didnt eat sleep etc. Thats his fault for doing that. So now he has to live with this guilt for the rest of this life. And his family isnt prob. going to forgive him for this because what Oknokwo did was stupid.

ReplyDeleteI don’t think that Okonkwo showed any weakness in killing in Ikemefuna. I believe this because he helped killed the boy. Okonkwo was not told that he had to take part in the killing. I think he did because he did not want to be looked at as a weak person. Okonkwo cares very much about how he is looked at so I think he killed the boy for a reputation.
As I said before Okonkwo did not show any weakness in killing Ikemefuna. He showed weakness the next day after he killed him. I think he did this because he felt bad for killing the boy. It said in the book “the boy called Okonkwo father.” It also stated that Okonkwo looked at the boy like another son. Okonkwo felt emotional about killing the boy. He did not want to show emotion because he thought showing emotion was something women did.
Even though Okonkwo was not sad when he killed the boy, I think deep down inside he felt bad. I believe this because in the book it said when Okonkwo got home he did not taste food for two days. He was like this because he felt bad about killing the boy. He drank palm wine to get drunk. He got drunk because he wanted to clear his mind of all thoughts. His eyes also were red and were described as a rat when it’s caught by the tail.
I think if Okonkwo could have gone back in time he would never killed the boy. As I said before Okonkwo and the boy were getting closer to each other. Okonkwo’s son also started to get close to Ikemefuna. When Okonkwo got back Nwoye was scared of his father because he knew his father had killed Ikemefuna. Nwoye did not cry because his father told him it was not manly to cry.
Okonkwo’s son described the feeling of his father coming home as a solitary walker coming home and on the way passing an evil spirit. I think that Nwoye was disappointed that he had lost someone he looked at as a family member. Okonkwo described his son as sensitive and that he was much like his mother. Okonkwo also had a daughter who thought she should have been a boy. He believes this because she is not as emotional and she was demanding.
Okonkwo really showed his character with this situation. If he told his son not to be emotional he shouldn’t be talking. Okonkwo is supposed to be a warrior and not supposed to be afraid of bloodshed. Okonkwo is known of one of the strongest men around. To him men do not get emotional. Okonkwo was very emotional because of the situation.
As you can see I think the weakness Okonkwo shows is his emotion. As I said before, men do not show their emotion. If a man shows their emotion they are considered as weak. I think Okonkwo had a part in killing the boy because he wanted to show that he had no emotion. Also that the killing wouldn’t affect him, but it really did.

Okonkwo is trying to be everything he is not in this section of the book.Okonkwo was afraid of being weak.He didnt want pepole to see him as a falure. He felt felt uneased about wat happen when he killed Ikemefuna. To me Okonkwo felt like he did a harsh thing he didnt eat and he was only drinking wine for days.
I feel like Okonkwo didnt realy want to have part in the killing of Ikemefuna but he felt that he had no chocie.Okonkwo felt hurt and showed pain.He didnt realy want to kill Ikemefuna he looked at him as a son and Okonkwo was like a father to him.
It was peer pressure that made Okonkwo kill Ikemefuna. He didnt want to kill him but i think he was worried about what will happen to him if didnt help.Okonkwo started to feel bad about what he did.It made me think that he was heartless but towards the end Okonkwo kind of take back every thing that he did.
Okonkwo didnt want to look weak.He didnt want pepole to think that he wasnt strong or a man to do it.He was just so confused and didnt know what to do.They had a bond.It Should not have happen the way it did.It was said “you, who are known in all the nine villages for your valor in war''.Every one knows Okonkwo from being violent so this was nothin new.
What he did was not unespected from him.Because it was unespected he should not have done it. I think Okonkwo has a lot of pain build up inside of him. In the beging of the book Okonkwo was always talkin about how he didnt like his father,he was a loser,he didnt do things as a man and,how he wanted to be better but what he did didnt make him a man.Killing Ikemefuna didnt make Okonkwo a better man then his father.
I still cant belive Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna. You can tell he was hurt,he had pain build up inside him,he was worreid,he didnt want to do it.I thought he was a strong person. This was one of the most wrongest thing he did.It wasnt right.
I know Okonkwo didnt want to kill him. This will hunt him until he die.Deep down on the inside Okonkwo is crying.Ikemefuna was a son figure.

In chapter seven, something very big happens. It was a regular afternoon when okonkwo was sitting in his hut drinking palm wine. A man come to his hut and tells him something. This man was the oldest in his village park of Umuofia. He went by the name Ezeudu. He said to him “do not bare a hand to his death.” they had decided to kill Ikemefuna; his adopted son.
Okonkwo was very surprised. Now it has been three years since he was living with his family. He has became a very big helpful person to the members of his family. As a good influential older brother to Nwoye. every time there was something to do he was there to help and keep his brother doing something and out of his fathers way. Everyone in the family that lived in the hut with him started to look after him as if he was a part of the family.
Later on in the day okonkwo pulled him aside. He told him that he was going to go home to his real family. They had to avoid telling him that he was going to be killed. The men from the village had told him that he did not have to take part in his killing. He had the privileged because he was like a son to him. They where very close and connected. Nwoye had over herd him talking to the men of the villege. As he was listening he started to tear up. Even the young children of the villge knew what was going on.
The next day the group of eldery men came to his hut to get them. He is still thinking that he is going to go see his family. He had to carry a large pot of wine. As they where walking they talked and laughed as if nothing was wrong. He has noticed little things as he was walking. The men was walking slower than his and wispering behind his back.
All of a sudden one of the men shot and killed the boy. As the bulet cought him his last words was “Oh father they killed me.” you would think that a father of his son would help him. Okonkwo did not want to show any sypothy for him. Even though he did not kill him it was very pain for him to watch because he loved him personaly. By jumping in and trying to stop him from shooting that would have showed a weak part of him.
Okonkwo would never show a weak side of him. By the way the men of the villeges look at him. It would have change veryones perspective of him. That you can say is one of his very high fear. Never in his life he wants to be looked as a weaker man than what he is now. In a way it would be similar to what one of his faters action. He was weak and not a strong leader as he is. What he did was very selfish.
This action that he has tooken part in was self-centered. He was very worried about what he would get out of it. Instead of steping up for his son he chose not to. He should have not been so worried about what people would think of him. It would have been more of a father figure to try and save him.

Okonkwo shows that he cares for people he loves and not only himself. In his heart he knew he cared for Ikemefuna like he was his own which is why he felt as if something seemed to give way inside him, like the snapping of a tightened bow. What he felt was called mixed emotions flowing through his body.
In the beginning of the book Okonkwo came off as unlovable and careless but when he became satisfied of Ikemefuna’s ways towards woman and how he improved of becoming a man thoughts changed. He even let Ikemefuna join him in his community meetings (Obi). At first Ikemefuna was afraid of Okonkwo’s household but after three years he grew rapidly like a yam tendril in the rainy season, and was full of the sap life. This means Okonkwo’s family treated him with care as well as he returned. He considered his family (Okonkwo’s family) like it was his own due to Okonkwo’s emotional change.
I find it interesting that one person changed Okonkwo’s life style. I thought he would never be able to love due to his past because it was his past that made him the person he is today. The reason for this is because his father never showed care towards his family but only towards his palm-wine so I figured he would do the same but just gave his family what he didn’t had. When I read how he felt when he saw Ikemefuna he felt compassion towards someone he was proud to call his own.
After the death of Ikemefuna Okonkwo’s attitude completely changed. In the text it says, “Okonkwo did not taste any food for two days after the death of Ikemefuna. He drank palm-wine for morning till night, and his eyes were red fierce like the eyes of a rat when it was caught by the tail and dashed against the floor.” In my opinion I think he became his own father because of the pain he suffered. He became lazy and it wasn’t himself. I was amazed at him because the old Okonkwo wouldn’t sit down and somber he would continue being himself. He accomplished the act of failure.
This brings me towards the end. Okonkwo became a new person once Ikemefuna entered his life and completely changed after. I guess this comes to show even the biggest people who heads are held can bring it down towards the ground.

ReplyDeleteOkonkwo's weakness demonstrates when he gains the lead role in killing Ikemefuna is that he is a female. He showed that he was a women when he killed five men in battle. When okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. Okonkwo was apprehensive that people would think that he is weak.
Okonkwo even though he was afraid of killing him he had to. Another reason why okonkwo just went ahead with killing him was, because he thought of his father. Just to show people from the villages that he had courage. When he thinks of his father he sees failure and weakness. So he got rid of that negativity by becoming a strong and successful person. This is why he never overlooks his dutys. Okonkwo started to occupy his mind with things that make him feel better.
Okonkwo he also started to feel like his old self again. Okonkwo started to occupy his mind with things that make him feel better. He said things like if I killed him during the planting season or harvesting. It would not have been bad in his village. Okonkwo he also was not a man of talking but of action that some other reasons why he killed ikemefuna.
Moreover Okonkwo acted the way he did because Ikemefuna has lived in his household for over three years. So that was another son to Okomkwo since he was there for along time. For example he always told stories to Ikemefuna and his son Nwoye. They also use to plant yams on the farm together.
Moreover Okonkwo acted the way he did because Ikemefuna has lived in his household for over three years. So that was another son to Okomkwo since he was there for along time. For example he always told stories to Ikemefuna and his son Nwoye. They also use to plant yams on the farm together.
