In the book "City of the Beast" the relationship between Alex and his grandmother(Kate). Usually the grandmother would be kind to her grandson/granddaughter. But in the book she treats him as if he was just a stranger. Even though they are relatives and are family, she still doesn't like hime. That's what I think.
One reason I made that statement is that when he was waiting for her at the airport she didn't come. So he had to walk all the way to her apartment. In the winter cold in New York City. And when he got there the only thing she said was "What took you so long?" My opinion is that that's just plain wrong to say that.
Another is that she thinks that Alex is a punk. That's the only reason that he's going with her to the Amazons. She thinks that he goes he'll become a man. Just like his father knowing how to take care of yourself. In situations like being alone in New York City in the cold and all you got is your life.
Also is that she's not hated just by Alex, but by his mother. Every time she visits she has these bad vibes. Saying that letting her in is a big mistake, because she scares the kids with her stories. I think that if Kate acted like a grandmother should be she would even rent her a room.
Whenever grandmothers come to visit they tell great and sweet stories. But when Kate comes over she tells her grandchildren about the time a snake ate her camera. And a creature living in the Amazons called the "Beast". Saying that it's at least 9 feet tall and has killed villagers.
In the part of her leaving Alex at the airport was to test him. I mean that they are going to the Amazons the next day. At least you have to know where your going and how your going to get there alive. But out in the cold in winter is just terror. I would easily caught a cab and told her I walked.
We all have different realationships with our families. Some good and some bad. But at least you don't have Kate as a grandmother. First the Amazons with insects and the intense heat. But still that sounds like a challenge worth getting into but this grandmother and grandson relationship is kind of weird.

A relationship is the bond or connection between something or someone. Grandmothers are the mother of a mother or a father. To have some sort of a connection with any relative is important within a family. in the novel City of the Beast, the grandson Alex has a bad relationship towards his grandmother Kate. though in my personal opinion Kate did have a unique way of teaching him,her ways were still dangerous.
An example of Kates' endangering way of teaching would be the lesson behind smoking. She'd came to their home and somehow could tell he was smoking. Unlike any other grandparent who'd tell their own parent or make a whole show about it, she took him on a ride. On that ride she'd taught him a valuable lesson.
However, Alex's mother never like her mother-in-law. She felt that her husbands mother was very dangerous and too dangerous to be around her kids. Like that night when they'd came back, Alex just became instantly sick. And right away his mother said that she knew Kate had something to do with his instant illness. Another time was when he was younger and couldn't swim, yet she pushed him into a pool anyway.
So from the first experience he'd learn that drugs weren't for him. And then after being purposely shoved into a pool, he'd learn how to swim. I personally believe that her ways of teaching him were effective, but there are other ways to come about the overall lesson. Also grandparents are almost just like parents. They are always teaching you, and you always can learn from them.
The common concept of grandmothers and grandsons is like a "cool" relationship. Not so much as a best friend or a mama's boy, but just in between. The difference between the Cold's relationship and any other would be the tension between them and everyone else. Some families do have their problems but the manage to work around it. However in this story there appears to be no possible ways to get over the fact that their grand mother is not like most.
Their grandmother is not like most. Though some families have their grandparents that do exploring and expeditions, based on the different stories they normally aren't weird. In this case Kate is really disliked. The younger two sisters probably really don't understand whats going on. But the fact is that Alex and his first family doesn't like Kate like other families do their grandmother.
To me there is no explanation to why she treats her grandson the way she does. I could assume it would be to teach him, but there are other ways to do that. Most grandmothers are the ones who come to visit like every other weekend, so they say. But when they do, the bring something. Cookies, toys, money almost anything to practically buy their love. But this one Ms.Kate Cold, when she visited her family she does the most to make them feel uncomfortable.

Alex is the 15 year old who go to live with his grandmother, because his mother has cancer and his father need to keep his attention on Alex’ mother. Kate is Alex’ pipe smoking ,vodka drinking grandmother. Alex and him grandmother has a relationship that nobody wants with there grandmother.
Alex’s grandmother is the grandmother straight out of hell. She is a pipe smoker, vodka drinking old lady and she treats Alex like crap. Like when he get to New York City , he thinks his grandmother is going to put him up from the airport. He was so wrong, and he had to find her house by himself. And that is just a example of the way Alex’s grandmother treats him like crap.
The relationship with grandson and grandmother is should be like grandmother loves you and she shows it. And you show your love for your grandmother in your own way. But Alex and his grandmother turn that statement in to a garbage. And you know that because Alex pleases not to go to His grandmother’s house. Also what grandmother takes her grandson to the Amazon rainforest to looking for something called the Beast. Now that do not sound like some where a grandmother would take you. I was thinking maybe your grandmother would take your to the mall or to the park. But to a the Amazon rainforest without know what can be out there that is crazy. Alex could have got bite by a snake that can kill you. And he would that the snake was safe to touch and even hold.
I think that Alex’s grandmother loves him but she has a hard time show it. Maybe she was bought up in a time, when showing love for my family was wrong. That you have to keep your feelings in sided. But Alex is from a home which love is show , even now because him mother have cancer. They are from to different worlds, but they are pretty much a like.
Alex and his grandmother is pretty much alike. But they are from to different worlds. And they trip they are going to see hoe much they are alike. Because when you and your family member put y’all self in some type dangerous, situation y’all learn something about every other.
That is really it. They really do not have the average grandson and grandmother relationship, but they do there best. You know. But if I was Alex I would not want to stay with my grandmother. But that is just me. But sooner or later they are going to start to like and understand each other.

In the story "City Of The Beast" from pages 1-47 is about an boy name ALex whoses mother is really sick. Which his father tells him that he will have to stay with his grandma(Kate) until Lisa ( his mother) gets better.
Alex at this doesn't really like kate because of the things she did in the past.
Kate isn't like other grandmas we see nowadays. She is an fearless woman that does everything any other grandma wouldn't do. As you know mostly grandma's show how they feel about their grandkids saftey. But, not ms.Kate she would make Alex's life worst.
The reason why i said that was because in the story it said that when Alex came home smelling like smoke she took him for an ride. They stop at an place and just smoking up to point where Alex's would start to throw up. I think the point of this was to tell him that even though his friends are smoking he doesn't really know the side effects of it.
Another reason why i said she doesn't show that she cares about his feeling was because in the story shetalks about takeinghim to the Amazon where there is an beast on the loose. When i read that part i thought that Kate was kind of crazy.
I think the reason for her treating him like this to toughing him up for the real world. Alex is an punk and Kate is fearless. I think she wants brush some of her fearlessness on to him so he can stop being scare.
Alex isn't the only one that is scare of Kate. Lisa(Alex's mom) is scare of her. She scare of her because she is type crazy. SHe fears that something will happen to her kids. Thats why when Kate comes she always watching her every move.
AS you can see Kate sure does alot of things. Put your self in Alex's shoes what would you do. If i was him i would yell for help because she is crazy. Thank god my grandma isn't like that.

Well first off a relationship is a bond that someone has for another. A relationship can be something that is either good or bad. But usually relationships with families are usually something that is good. In this story the relationship that Alex has with his grandmother is very unusual. His relationship with his grandmother is not like what teenagers has with their grandmothers
Alex and his grandmother have a very bad relationship. They really do not have the love that everyone has for their grandmother. For example when Alex went to the airport where he thought she was going to be. She was not their, so he had to walk in the freezing snow to her apartment. To me that is not what a grandmother is supposed to do.
Another reason it is different from a normal grandson and grandmother relationship. Is when Alex walked from the airport to her apartment. So instead of her caring for him and apologizing for not picking Alex up at the airport. All that she said to him was what took you so long. If that was me I would have just left, no matter how cold that it is.
Also the relationship that Alex and his grandmother were bad from the start. The reason is that when he was younger she use to tell him very scary stories. And he used to be scared, because it use to have zombies and scary things. And even when he was scared she still use to tell him it anyway. So he has memory of that and makes his hatred stronger.
And the grandmother she sees Alex as a little boy. She did not like the fact that in her eyes that he would act like that. So she took him to the Amazon so he can become a man. So that he can be able to handle tough situations. Either when he is alone or is just in a bad situation.
The reason why she is treating him like this is so he can become strong. And her own daughter did not like her because of what she did to the kids when they were younger. And Alex’s grandmother really did not care what she did to them. To me she is just someone who is cold blooded. Kids or anyone are not supposed to be treated like that.
In conclusion I think that their relationship should be better than that. But some people just do not want to be treated with respect. My philosophy is how you get respect if you never give people respect. That is the wrong way for someone to go not to give someone respect. And in a way I think that the grandmother deserves it. And I think that she should be more nicer with the situation that her daughter is in.

A relationship is a connection, association, or involvement. I beileve, The Bond or Connection between a grandparents and their grandchild should be strong. Even though some people do not have a strong relationship. i believe the grandparents and the gradchild should be able to talk about anything. and have a great Bond. I beileve that it is very important to have a relationship with your grandparent as so as anyother family member.
In the story thers a 15 year old boy named alex. alex was sent to live with his grand mother in new york city. even though alex despertly didnt want to go he still had to go live with his grandmother in new york city.
Alex had to go live with his grand mother in new york city because his mother was battleing with cancer and mother and father had left to trie and fight the cancer.When alex arrived to the airport in new york city his grand mother had no intentions in going and getting him from the airport. that meant that alex had to walk to her house.
This to me really showed that alex and his grandmother's relationship was not like usual ones. if it was alex's grandmother would of went to get him from the airport which she didnt. this showed how diffrently thier relationship was from others and the grandparents.
alex grandmother did not pick him up from the air port.and made him walk in the freezing cold to her house . and to make matters worst when alex finally arrived out the cold to her house she showed no remorse. iNfact she asked alex what took him so long to arrive to her house. this showed that she really had no intentions at all on going to get her grandson from the airport. this really showed how shed acted towards him and this part hard a big impact on their relationship.
Alex's grandmother was a reporter for international geograpihic. alex's grandmother told him he was goin with her to the amazon. alex's grandmother was taking alex to the amazon i beileve for him to get stronger. i think this is why alex's grandmother treated him in such a way. she wanted him to be a man and not act like a little boy. even though i dont think i was right for his grandmother to treat him this way just to make him stronger this is what i think she did it for. i also think that while she was doing these such things such as being mean to him she did not care about the outcome of her and her grandsons relation ship. thats a nother reason why thier relationship ids not like others and thier grandparents because grandparents usually care about the grandchilds feelings and and care about how their realtionship is. me personally i think that alex's grandmother likes him. i just beileve that she wants him to be stronger. i just beileve that she is drffinetly doing it the wrong way.
In conclusion, Alex and his grandmothers relation ship is very differnt that others and their gradmothers. i beileve that their relation ship should of been way better. for the reason that they are family. and also the family crisis alex is ging through i beileve that his grandmother should have been even more nice to hin than she was supposed to. i beileve the the grandmother should of really been their for him which she didnt. which really showed the way they lack a relation ship and the way their relation ship is tottally diffrent from others. also,i think that way and reason his grandmother treated him the way she treated him was no acceptional and not the he should have been treated by his grandmother or anyone in his family. on the other hand i think that alex's grandmother was not really their for him durin the family crisis because she wanted alex to be stronger and know how to handle things better.

In the book city of the beasts the relationship between Alex and his grandmother Kate is very unusual. I have always expected for a grandmother to be sweet and loving to her grandchildren and play games with them. She is a one of a kind grandmother who will teach you all sorts of things through life lessons with harsh ways. The grandmother is like training her grandson to be a man in the future to be strong for any obstacles.
For example in the book Alex was smoking with his friends and he tired his best to eat gum and spray himself with cologne so that he wont smell like smoke. His grandmother couldn’t get fooled by the gum and cologne so easy like her dog. His grandmother asked him if he was smoking so he did his best not to tell her, but she was smart to test him. She took him on a very dangerous ride through the neighborhood and drove really fast the Alex became really car sick.
Eventually Alex threw up his lungs after smoking he even got a huge head ach from it. His dad was a doctor, he thought he was very sick from some fever from smoking and that he would stay in bed for three days. The Kate showed him lesson to never smoke another cigarette in his life and learn not to mess up his lungs. The grandmother wants to teach Alex life lessons and doesn’t want him to make mistakes in his life.
Alex’s mother doesn’t want Kate to near her kids because she is a very crazy person and does very dangerous things. That’s why she doesn’t want her to daughters near at all after what she has done to Alex. Alex’s mother is scared she will hurt them so she wants her to stay away from them as much as possible. The bond between the Grand son and the Grand mother is suppose to be strong, and they are suppose to look out for each other, but Kate does it in a completely different way.
The reason Kate is treating Alex in a mean way is because she wants him to learn discipline to prepare him for what’s going to happen in the future. She doesn’t want him to fall into peer pressure and wants him to be very independent. She wants for him to grow up a very strong man who will do anything to get what he wants. Kate doesn’t want him to grow up a loser but a strong of character so that he can become successful in the future. Kate has very good reasons to why she treats him like that so that he can toughen up for the future.
The Kate is a one of a kind grandmother who really cares about her Grand son but show her love in a different kind of way. She is a very unique grandmother and really does care about Alex. She has a relationship that most grandsons don’t have so they have different things in that relationship, and they need to also communicate because Kate takes to much action into her hands. She also needs to talk to Alex in what is he doing wrong within his life.
In conclusion I believe that Kate is a one of kind grandmother that some people would ask for but then at the same time wouldn’t ask for. It takes a big women to care about a grandson like that so I believe she is just doing that because she shows her love and affection in that way. Alex must think that his Grandmother is just crazy and wants to screw with his mind, but what she really wants to do is save his future and fix his character so that no one will pick on him.

Alex is the main character in the book "city of the beast". A relationship is a particular type of connection exsiting between perple related to or having dealing with each other. Grandmotheris the mother of one's father or mother.
Alex relationship with is grandmother(kate) is not the best. The love from Kate to Alex is tuff love because she is a little mean lady, but still show her love for him at the end of the day.
For example,when Alex walked all night to his grandmother house in the cold after he got robbed by Morgana. She clained that
they didnt make the agreement for her to pick him up from the airport. But she cared for him afterwards by giving a hot bath, and with some hot chocolate.
Another example is when he lost is flute, the instament he love to play. Kate didnt wanna show that she cared so he gave him his grandfather flute as a cover up
I believe she treats him in this matter because she want him to grow up stong and responsible the same as the men in the family,
Another reason is because maybe she want him to be independent. Where as he dont need nobody which was his whole attitude the whole time
on his way to New York City.
In conclusion i also think the grandmother(kate) must have treated John(Alex father) the same way thats why he grew up to be stong for the whole family while he Mother(lisa) was sick

Cancer is a malignant tumor or growth caused when cells multiply uncontrollably, destroying healthy tissue. The different forms are sarcomas, carcinomas, leukemia’s, and lymphomas. Alex went to go live with Kate, his grandmother because his mother was going through treatment for her cancer. Alex and his grandmother had a strange relationship
Alex had been living in a town In California for 15 years of his life. He had lived with his father, mother and his 2 sisters. His mother had been on bed rest because of her sickness. The sickness she had is called cancer. Ever since his mother got sick Alex explained that his life changed drastically around his house. Alex said on Page 7. “He did not have anybody to scratch his back or brighten up his spirits when he was depressed. He also said “his father was not in to spoiling the kids.”
Since Alex’s mother was sick she had to go to a hospital in Texas with his father. Since no one was going to be home to watch the kids at the house they were all going to stay with their grandparents. The 2 girls were going to stay with Alex’s mothers’ mother. Alex was going to stay with his fathers’ mother whose name was Kate. Alex was upset when he found out that he had to stay with Kate. Alex said to his father “at least grandma Carla can cook”, because he did not like Kate’s cooking at all.
Alex and Kate have an interesting relationship in the story. They do not act like regular grandson and grandmother towards each other. Kate kinds of acts like a child, because she was irresponsible for forgetting to pick up Alex from the airport. Most grandmothers would not want their grandchildren walking through the streets of New York by themselves. Since Kate did not pick Alex up from the airport he had to take public transportation where he got robbed by a girl named Morgana. This could have all been avoided if Kate picked Alex up.
Alex’s Grandmother is also a trouble maker. Alex’s mother also agrees but does not say anything about it. One time Alex’s grandmother found out that Alex was smoking. She did not give him a talk about how he should not smoke like a normal grandmother would do. She took Alex on a ride in the car to get to Cigars. She stopped into a isolated area and closed all the windows and doors in the car, then she lit the cigars burn until the windows got foggy and Alex couldn’t breathe. This experience made Alex never want to smoke again.
The reason I think Kate treats Alex so rough because she cares about him. She teaches Alex new lessons all the time. They do not have a normal grandmother grandchild relationship. She is more like a friend to Alex. Alex has a lot of memorable experiences with her.
As you can see Alex does not have a normal relationship with his Grandmother. She seems like she is fun to be around. She also seems adventurous. I think Alex will have a good time being around his grandmother. He will learn a lot about her from being around her.
